"The Life and Legacy of Prophet Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him): A Story of Miracles and Divine Mission"

The Story of Prophet Isa (Peace Be Upon Him)

Prophet Isa, known in Christianity as Jesus, is a revered figure in Islam, recognized as one of the greatest prophets sent by Allah to guide humanity. His story, filled with miracles, wisdom, and compassion, is a testament to his unwavering devotion to the message of monotheism and the worship of Allah alone.

Birth of Prophet Isa

Prophet Isa's miraculous story begins with his mother, Maryam (Mary), a devout and pious woman chosen by Allah for a momentous mission. Maryam lived a life of worship and devotion in the temple, where she was cared for by her guardian, Prophet Zakariya (Zechariah). One day, as Maryam prayed, an angel appeared before her to deliver glad tidings.

The angel said, “O Maryam, Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds. Be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer].” (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 42-43).

Maryam was informed that she would give birth to a child by the will of Allah, despite being untouched by any man. Astonished, she asked, “How can I have a child when no man has touched me?” The angel replied, “It is a command from Allah. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (Surah Maryam: 20-21).

Thus, Prophet Isa was conceived miraculously, signifying Allah’s absolute power and wisdom.

The Miraculous Birth

When the time came for Isa’s birth, Maryam withdrew to a remote place. She endured the pains of childbirth alone but was reassured by divine guidance. A voice called out to her, saying, “Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. And shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.” (Surah Maryam: 24-25).

With this support, Maryam gave birth to Prophet Isa, a miraculous sign for all of humanity.

The Infant Who Spoke

Upon returning to her people with the newborn child, Maryam faced accusations and disbelief. To defend her, Allah caused the infant Isa to speak from the cradle. He declared:

“Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive.” (Surah Maryam: 30-31).

This miraculous event silenced the critics and established Isa’s divine mission from the very beginning.

Prophet Isa’s Mission

As Isa grew, he became known for his piety, wisdom, and compassion. Allah granted him many miracles to support his prophethood and message. Prophet Isa healed the blind and lepers, brought the dead back to life by Allah’s permission, and breathed life into a bird-shaped clay model. Each of these miracles was a sign of Allah’s power and a reminder for people to worship Him alone.

Isa’s message emphasized monotheism and obedience to Allah. He called people to righteousness, charity, and prayer. He confirmed the Torah that had been revealed to Prophet Musa (Moses) and brought the Injeel (Gospel), a scripture full of guidance and light.

Opposition and Plot Against Prophet Isa

Despite his miracles and message, many people rejected Isa, particularly the religious elite who felt threatened by his growing influence. They plotted against him and conspired to have him executed.

Allah, however, had a greater plan. The Quran recounts:

“[They schemed] and Allah schemed. And Allah is the best of schemers.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 54).

Allah saved Isa from their plots by raising him to the heavens. The Quran clarifies that Isa was not crucified but that it was made to appear so to the people. This divine intervention ensured that Isa’s mission would not be thwarted.

Return of Prophet Isa

Muslims believe that Prophet Isa will return to earth before the Day of Judgment. He will descend as a just leader, break the cross, abolish falsehoods, and establish justice and peace. Isa will affirm the oneness of Allah and unite humanity in worship of the Creator.

Lessons from Prophet Isa’s Life

Prophet Isa’s story teaches us about the power and mercy of Allah, the importance of patience in the face of adversity, and the need for unwavering faith. Isa’s compassion, humility, and devotion to Allah serve as timeless examples for all believers.

In honoring Prophet Isa, Muslims reaffirm their belief in the continuity of prophethood and the universal message of Islam: to worship Allah alone and lead lives of righteousness.
